Abstract

A Prolog realisation of the system poem Sun. A ten-word grid — three nouns, three verbs, four adverbs — permuted across two syntactic orders yields seventy-two variants, one for each eclipse of Saros 126 (1179–2459). The 2026 eclipse is the forty-eighth of that cycle. Prolog is chosen for its declarative architecture, which states the constraints of a system rather than the steps to execute them, after the glossematics of Louis Hjelmslev. Nine of the ten words are referentially autonomous; the tenth, now, is deictic, and its meaning is constituted at the moment of utterance. It occurs in eighteen of the seventy-two variants, dividing the grid at exactly one quarter of its outputs into the readable-from-anywhere and the readable-only-from-here. The work is structurally isomorphic to the Antikythera Mechanism, built from words rather than bronze, and deliberately placeless where that machine was bound to a longitude.
