Abstract

Teacher education plays a pivotal role in shaping the quality of future teachers and, consequently, the overall educational system. In India, Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programmes are offered through both Government and Self-Financed colleges, which differ in terms of infrastructure, administrative practices, resource availability, and student support services. The present study aims to compare Government and Self-Financed B.Ed. colleges with respect to academic facilities, teaching effectiveness, and student satisfaction. A descriptive survey method was employed for the study. The sample consisted of 200 B.Ed. students, including 100 students from Government colleges and 100 students from Self-Financed colleges, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher covering various dimensions of academic facilities, teaching effectiveness, and student satisfaction. The collected data were analyzed using statistical techniques such as Mean, Standard Deviation, and t-test. The findings revealed that Self-Financed B.Ed. colleges generally possessed better physical infrastructure, technological facilities, and student support services, whereas Government colleges demonstrated strengths in terms of experienced faculty members and affordability. Significant differences were observed in academic facilities and student satisfaction, while only marginal differences were found in teaching effectiveness. The study concludes that both categories of institutions contribute significantly to teacher education, and a balanced integration of quality infrastructure, effective teaching practices, and student-centered services is essential for enhancing the overall quality of teacher education programmes.
