The workshop focuses on a practical question facing research-performing organisations: how can institutions move beyond using open infrastructures to actively sustaining them? Topics include: An overview of common sustainability and funding models used by infrastructures such as OpenAlex, OpenAIRE, Crossref, ORCID, ROR and DSpace. Different forms of institutional support, including financial contributions, governance participation and community contributions. Factors that influence institutional investment decisions and barriers to long-term support. Concrete examples of OpenAlex and OpenAIRE membership models and the value they provide. Discussion of sustainability at ecosystem level, including the potential roles of SURF, UKB, UNL, SHB and Open Science NL within the Dutch landscape. System-level initiatives such as SCOSS, Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI), POSI and COMET, with emphasis on governance, funding mechanisms and collective responsibility.
