
Abstract This evidence-informed review examines the health effects of screen time among children and adolescents, including its impact on sleep, physical activity, eye health, mental well-being, social development and academic performance. The publication summarizes recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). The review discusses current screen-use trends, age-specific recommendations, potential health risks associated with excessive screen exposure and practical strategies for promoting healthy digital habits. Particular attention is given to the Indian family context through public health observations, real-life parenting examples, and community awareness experiences from Odisha, India. The article emphasizes that the goal is not to completely deny the digital technology but to encourage a balanced approach that supports healthy child development, quality sleep, physical activity, family interaction, and responsible use of digital media. The publication is intended for parents, caregivers, educators, public health professionals, and anyone interested in promoting digital wellness among children and adolescents.
