"Women's Health Across the Lifespan: A Holistic Nursing Perspective on Health Promotion, Disease Prevention, and Quality Care"

Abstract

Abstract: Women’s health is a multidimensional concept that encompasses physical, psychological, reproductive, social, and emotional well-being throughout the lifespan. From adolescence to older adulthood, women experience unique physiological transitions and health challenges that require comprehensive, evidence-based nursing care. Nurses play a critical role in health promotion, disease prevention, early identification of health problems, patient education, advocacy, and the provision of holistic care across all stages of life. Factors such as hormonal changes, reproductive health needs, pregnancy, menopause, chronic illnesses, mental health conditions, and social determinants of health significantly influence women’s health outcomes. Contemporary healthcare systems increasingly recognize the importance of gender-sensitive approaches that address the specific needs of women while promoting equity, empowerment, and patient-centered care. This review examines women’s health across the lifespan from a nursing perspective, highlighting key health concerns during adolescence, reproductive years, pregnancy and childbirth, middle adulthood, menopause, and older age. The article further explores the role of nurses in health promotion, preventive care, mental health support, chronic disease management, and health advocacy. Understanding the evolving health needs of women throughout their lives enables nurses to deliver comprehensive, culturally competent, and evidence-based care that improves quality of life and health outcomes.
