From waste to treasure: boosting upcycling of critical raw materialsfrom hard disk drives

Abstract

This presentation was delivered in the context of CEST2025, the International Conference on Environmental Science and Technology, a biannual event organised by the Global Network of Environmental Science and Technology in cooperation with the University of the Aegean. The event took place at a critical moment for global environmental action, as biodiversity loss, climate change, plastic pollution, water degradation and unsustainable resource use continue to place increasing pressure on natural ecosystems and societies. Against this background, CEST2025 brought together researchers, policymakers, practitioners and stakeholders to discuss scientific, technological and policy-oriented solutions for a more sustainable future.
