SteamDry Pilot Plant. VTT SAMPO - Superheated Steam Drying Technology

SteamDry Pilot Plant. VTT SAMPO - Superheated Steam Drying Technology

Abstract

This infographic presents the rebuild of the VTT SAMPO pilot plant for the implementation and validation of Superheated Steam Drying (SSD) technology. It describes the retrofit process, the new pilot plant configuration, and the key technical challenges addressed during development, including sealing, steam purification, and thermal durability. The infographic explains the operating principle of the upgraded system, based on closed-loop steam circulation and steam reheating, enabling efficient heat recovery and stable drying conditions. It also highlights the main performance benefits demonstrated by the concept, including up to 50% drying energy savings, high drying rates, positive effects on product quality, and improved sustainability through reduced energy consumption and enhanced resource efficiency.
