Senegal Energy system modeling

Senegal Energy system modeling

Abstract

Senegal has recently become a producer and exporter of oil and natural gas. The country intends to use these resources to finance its socioeconomic development and accelerate universal access to electricity. Simultaneously, the country will soon submit its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0, which includes more ambitious climate actions. Furthermore, the country has signed the JETP (Energy Transition for the Public Sector), an agreement that will enable it to achieve a 40% renewable energy mix by 2030. Faced with climate and economic development challenges, the country needs rigorous medium- and long-term energy planning to adopt the best trajectory and address various global and national challenges. This modeling work contributes to this dynamic by developing four scenarios that integrate key sectors.
