The Watch Comfort Geometry Framework: Complete Seven-Axis Edition — Including TWH, DCA, and the Anatomical Ideal Diameter

Abstract

This paper presents the complete Watch Comfort Geometry Framework — seven comfort axes, one dynamic term (DCA), and two new measurement standards (TWH and SS). It supersedes and extends the original four-axis Comfort Framework (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20514293). The seven axes collectively address every physical surface of the wrist: Comfort Axis 1 (Case Height Ratio: H_case ÷ WD ≤ k₁), Comfort Axis 2 (Crown Clearance: (W − D) ÷ 2 ≥ P_crown + ε), Comfort Axis 3 (Lug Span: (W − LS) ÷ 2 ≥ ε_lug), Comfort Axis 4 (Strap Pressure: LW ÷ W ≥ k₂), Comfort Axis 5 (Cuff Clearance: TWH ≤ CD − ε_cuff), Comfort Axis 6 (Lateral Strap Protrusion: T_lateral ≤ ε_lateral), and Comfort Axis 7 (Styloid Clearance: LC ≥ f(SP, d_styloid)). The Dynamic Comfort Allowance (DCA = ΔC ÷ 2π) addresses dynamic wrist swelling during physical activity across all surfaces. Two new measurement standards are formally defined: Total Wearing Height (TWH = T + CT + WD) and Styloid Span (SS). The Anatomical Ideal Diameter hypothesis is introduced: D_ideal ≈ SS — the first anatomically-grounded watch sizing recommendation in the literature, asserting that watch sizing is not arbitrary preference but anthropometry. The (A − B) ÷ 2 structural primitive appears in four of the nine geometric expressions, confirming bilateral clearance geometry as the unifying foundation of the framework. All seven axes are hypotheses. Open empirical problems are clearly mapped. This framework is designed to roll up into the forthcoming unified Watch Wearability Framework.
