Abstract

Bytholeucon angolensis Mühlenhardt-Siegel, 2005Holotype.South Atlantic Ocean • ovig. ♀; Angola Basin, DIVA I exped., FS Meteor stat. M 48/1-348-1; 16°18.1'S, 05°27.2'E to 16°19.3'S, 05°27.2'E [- 16.28315, 5.45465; - 16.32133, 5.45342]; 5390–5387 [5430–5433] m depth; 28 July 2000; Angelika Brandt & J. Wolfgang Wägele leg.; epibenthic sledge; ZMH -K-040657.Paratypes.* • ♀ + ovig. ♀ + subA. ♀; Angola-Basin, DIVA I exped., FS Meteor stat. M 48/1-340-1, 18°18.3'S, 04°41.3'E to 18°19.4'S, 04°41.9'E (- 18.28822, 4.68683; - 18.32237, 4.69722); 5395 (5419–5443) m depth; 22 July 2000; Angelika Brandt & J. Wolfgang Wägele leg. epibenthic sledge; one specimen dissected; ZMH -K-040658. * • ovig. ♀; same data as holotype; ZMH -K-067050. * • ovig. ♀; Angola Basin, DIVA I exped., FS Meteor stat. M 48/1-344-1, 17°06.2'S, 04°41.7'E to 17°07.5'S, 04°42.3'E (- 17.08225, 4.68008; - 17.12423, 4.7046); 5415 (5460) m depth; 25. 07. 2000; Angelika Brandt & J. Wolfgang Wägele leg. epibenthic sledge; specimen as SEM preparation; ZMH -K-067051.Remarks.Mühlenhardt-Siegel (2005 c) did not explicitly designate a particular lot as a paratype in the original description; she only includes the sentence “ description of appendages based on paratype female (station 340, epinet) ”. This specimen, together with specimens from the same and two additional stations, is listed as “ material ” in the publication, and a single collection number was assigned to all of them (ZMH -K-040658). The entire lot, including the specimens from the three stations, is marked as paratype in the catalogue book, index cards, and original labels within the jars. Based on this, we include the paratype designation to all material, material from stat. 340 retains the original collection number assigned by Mühlenhardt-Siegel (2005 c), whereas paratypes from stat. 348 and stat. 344 were assigned to new collection numbers (see above).Diagnosis.Carapace less than 2 times longer than the free thoracic segments. Antenna 1, peduncle geniculated between basal and second article; accessory flagellum shorter than basal article of main flagellum. Maxilliped 3, exopod with 4 spines at basis. Pereopod 1, exopod’s basis with 5 spine-like setae (after Mühlenhardt-Siegel 2005 c).Distribution.Southeast Atlantic, Angola Basin, 5387–5415 m depth.
