Abstract

Title: Spacetime Substantivalism 44: As Validated by Gravitational Wave Confirmation — On the ill-Posed Nature of Phase Singularity Trajectory Reconstruction and Apparent Superluminal Motion in Structured Optical Fields Abstract: We analyze reported instances of apparent superluminal motion of phase singularities in structured optical fields. We show that such claims arise from a reconstruction step that maps a time-dependent zero set of a complex field onto particle-like temporal sequences. Because phase singularities form a set-valued object whose topology may change over time, the identity mapping between temporal slices is not uniquely defined in general. We demonstrate that standard nearest-neighbor tracking introduces an implicit continuity assumption not contained in Maxwell's equations. We further show that apparent superluminal segments coincide with topological transition events of the zero set, while energy transport velocities remain bounded by the speed of light. Gravitational wave observations, particularly GW170817, have confirmed that spacetime is not an abstract geometric container but a substantive electromagnetic medium governed by the First Protocol ($c = 1/\sqrt{\epsilon_0 \mu_0}$). The First Protocol incorporates a built-in "fuse" mechanism that prevents any physical process from exceeding the speed of light by enforcing a nonlinear constitutive response as $v \to c$. We conclude that the reported superluminal motion reflects reconstruction artifacts rather than physical transport phenomena; therefore, superluminal propagation of energy, information, or causal influence is physically impossible in substantive spacetime.
