ORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY HERBAL FACE CREAM USING CUCUMBER EXTRACT, TURMERIC EXTRACT, COCONUT OIL, AND HONEY

Abstract

Herbal cosmetics have gained significant importance in recent years due to their safety, effectiveness, and minimal side effects compared to synthetic cosmetic products. The present study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of an anti-inflammatory herbal face cream using cucumber extract, turmeric extract, coconut oil, and honey as major active ingredients. The selected herbal ingredients possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, moisturizing, and wound-healing properties beneficial for maintaining healthy skin. The cream was prepared using the oil-in-water emulsification method and evaluated for physicochemical parameters including color, odor, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, washability, viscosity, irritancy, and stability. The prepared formulation exhibited satisfactory physical appearance, good spreadability, suitable pH, non-irritant nature, and acceptable stability. Turmeric extract provided strong antiinflammatory and antioxidant effects due to curcumin, while cucumber extract offered cooling and soothing action. Coconut oil acted as an emollient and moisturizer, whereas honey improved hydration and skin nourishment. The results indicate that the formulated herbal face cream can serve as a safe and effective alternative to synthetic anti-inflammatory cosmetic products.
