European Open Source Academy (EOSA) Awards Framework

Abstract

The European Open Source Awards recognise exceptional contributions to the open source community, serving as the flagship activity of the European Open Source Academy. Designed to strengthen public recognition and understanding of Open Source Software, Open Source Hardware, and Open Technologies across Europe, the Awards celebrate excellence while demonstrating open source's critical role in European digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, competitiveness, and resilience. The purpose of this document is to outline a concise framework for the ongoing establishment and operation of the European Open Source Awards, beginning with the 2026 European Open Source Awards Ceremony. This document functions as a framework for the 2026 Awards Ceremony, and will be updated and refined each year in consultation with the Members of the European Open Source Academy, who are responsible for the recurrent and ongoing delivery of the OSAwards Ceremony each year (in consultation with the OSAwards.eu consortium for 2027).
