THE ESSENCE AND TYPES OF READING SKILLS

Abstract

This article highlights the essence, importance, and types of reading skills, which play a crucial role in foreign language learning. The reading process is interpreted as a complex cognitive activity that involves not only reading a text but also understanding, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from it. The article substantiates the role of reading skills in forming communicative competence. Furthermore, key types of reading, such as skimming, scanning, intensive, and extensive reading, are explained in detail, and their practical importance in the educational process is demonstrated. These approaches serve to develop students' independent thinking, rapid information retrieval, and language skills.
