In summer 2023, Canada experienced its most intense wildfire season on record. Smoke from wildfires in Alberta and Quebec was transported thousands of miles, driven by favorable meteorological conditions, resulting in record-breaking poor air quality across the northeastern United States. This animation, powered by NASA's GEOS model, visualizes aerosol transport from May 31 – July 7, 2023 — the period of most dramatic impact on eastern U.S. air quality.Originally published at https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/5631/.
