The Moment in Metalogy as the Recognized Territory of What Is Occurring: A Comparative Dialogue with Søren Kierkegaard's Concept of the Instant

Abstract

This article examines the concept of the moment in the Metalogy of the Moment as an original philosophical system developed by Ida Melkumova Dengin. In this article, the term “moment” is not used in its everyday sense as a short interval of time, an occasion, or an episode. It is understood as an independent metalogical category. The moment in Metalogy denotes the recognized territory of what is occurring, into which a person enters after passing beyond the metamoment. If the metamoment is the space before form, a threshold and a pre-field prior to the clear definition of what is occurring, then the moment begins when a person understands: “this exists,” “this has entered my field of life,” “I am now before this reality.” The moment in Metalogy arises not merely as an external fact of an event, but as the inner recognition of that fact by human consciousness. Before this recognition, an event may already be taking place in the external world, yet for the person it has not yet become a moment in the metalogical sense. The article develops a comparative dialogue between the moment in Metalogy and Søren Kierkegaard’s concept of the instant. In Kierkegaard, the instant is connected with a decisive point of existence, where a person encounters the possibility of inner transition, truth, and spiritual transformation. In Metalogy, the moment is likewise not an empty unit of time; however, its meaning unfolds differently. The moment is the first formed territory of what is occurring, recognized by the person before the transition to state, role, vector, decision, action, and event. The aim of the article is to show that the moment in Metalogy is an independent philosophical unit: it is not identical with state, role, vector, decision, action, or event. It precedes further passage and opens the possibility of proper thinking about what is occurring. In the moment, a person recognizes the reality of what is occurring, but for further conscious passage it is necessary to step out of the circle of the moment; that is, to see what is occurring not only from within its pressure, but also as a defined reality with which one can now work.
