Abstract

Abstract This contribution analyses the impact of artificial intelligence on the creative industries, with particular attention to the audiovisual sector, not as the mere introduction of new productive tools, but as a structural transformation of the relationship between labour, value and cultural demand. The central hypothesis is that AI should not be assessed only in terms of what it makes possible, but also in terms of what it progressively makes less necessary: intermediate functions, distributed skills, processes of mediation, forms of experimentation and higher levels of creative complexity. The analysis shows how, in increasingly concentrated cultural markets governed by algorithmic infrastructures, optimization can foster the standardization of supply, the adaptation of demand and the lowering of the qualitative threshold considered economically sufficient. Within this framework, high-intensity creativity does not disappear, but loses systemic centrality, while intermediate labour is compressed and polarized. Particular attention is devoted to gendered effects, since many of the functions most exposed to automation — coordination, revision, adaptation and mediation — have historically been occupied to a significant extent by women and are often characterized by low symbolic visibility. Finally, the text identifies a crossroads: AI can reinforce concentration, substitution and simplification, or it can become a tool for amplifying capacities for reading, connection and the protection of complexity. What is at stake is not only productive efficiency, but the kind of cultural, economic and perceptual equilibrium that the creative industries are building. Abstract Questo contributo analizza l’impatto dell’intelligenza artificiale sulle industrie creative, con particolare attenzione al settore audiovisivo, non come semplice introduzione di nuovi strumenti produttivi, ma come trasformazione strutturale del rapporto tra lavoro, valore e domanda culturale. L’ipotesi centrale è che l’AI non vada valutata soltanto per ciò che rende possibile, ma anche per ciò che rende progressivamente meno necessario: funzioni intermedie, competenze diffuse, processi di mediazione, forme di sperimentazione e livelli più alti di complessità creativa. L’analisi mostra come, in mercati culturali sempre più concentrati e governati da infrastrutture algoritmiche, l’ottimizzazione possa favorire standardizzazione dell’offerta, adattamento della domanda e riduzione della soglia qualitativa considerata economicamente sufficiente. In questo quadro, la creatività ad alta intensità non scompare, ma perde centralità sistemica, mentre il lavoro intermedio viene compresso e polarizzato. Particolare attenzione è dedicata agli effetti di genere, poiché molte delle funzioni più esposte all’automazione — coordinamento, revisione, adattamento e mediazione — sono storicamente occupate in misura significativa da donne e spesso caratterizzate da bassa visibilità simbolica. Il testo individua infine un bivio: l’AI può rafforzare concentrazione, sostituzione e semplificazione, oppure diventare uno strumento per amplificare capacità di lettura, connessione e protezione della complessità. La posta in gioco non riguarda soltanto l’efficienza produttiva, ma il tipo di equilibrio culturale, economico e percettivo che le industrie creative stanno costruendo.
