The BOOD Model: A Unified Cognitive Scaffolding Framework for Triple-Loop Learning and Decision Optimization under Systemic Stress

Abstract

This paper introduces the BOOD (Be, Own/Owe, Do) model, a novel applied cognitive scaffolding framework designed to optimize human decision-making and reduce behavioral drift under operational stress. Moving beyond linear task-management tools, the BOOD framework unifies Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), and Behavioral Economics into a structured process network. By mapping the sequential transitions from Identity (Be/Become) to Processing and ultimately to Action Execution (Do), the model systematically triggers analytical System 2 thinking over impulsive System 1 reactions. A core architectural innovation of the model is its bidirectional routing mechanism based on context priority: the BE -> OWN -> OWE -> DO sequence is deployed for Resource Protection in utilitarian crises, while the BE -> OWE -> OWN -> DO sequence functions as a Value Protection filter for ethical and relational integrity. The framework satisfies the conditions of Second-Order Cybernetics, forming a dynamic, self-tuning feedback loop where executed actions retroactively recalibrate core identity parameters, facilitating authentic Triple-Loop Learning in educational, vocational, and organizational settings.
