ESTADO NUTRICIONAL Y RENDIMIENTO ACADÉMICO EN ESCOLARES DE PRIMARIA DE CAJAMARCA, PERÚ: ESTUDIO CORRELACIONAL

Abstract

La nutrición en la infancia es un factor clave para el desarrollo cognitivo y el desempeño escolar; sin embargo, su relación con el rendimiento académico no siempre es concluyente. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la asociación entre el estado nutricional y el rendimiento académico en escolares de educación primaria de una institución pública de Cajamarca, Perú. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, no experimental, de nivel correlacional y corte transversal, en una población censal de 400 estudiantes de 6 a 13 años. El estado nutricional se evaluó mediante el índice de masa corporal para la edad y la talla para la edad según estándares de la OMS, mientras que el rendimiento académico se determinó a partir de la condición final de promoción escolar. Se utilizó la prueba de Chi-cuadrado de Pearson con un nivel de significancia de p < 0,05. Los resultados evidenciaron un predominio de estado nutricional normal y que el 89,0% de los estudiantes fue promovido. No se encontró asociación significativa entre talla/edad y rendimiento académico (p = 0,666), ni entre IMC/edad y rendimiento académico (p = 0,133). Se concluye que el estado nutricional no se asocia significativamente con el rendimiento académico, lo que sugiere la influencia de factores sociales, familiares y educativos en el aprendizaje
