ECCC Global Coastal Total Sea Level Hindcast, Version 2 (ECCC_GTSLv2)

Abstract

ECCC-GTSLv2 was developed based on ECCC's Global Deterministic storm Surge Prediction System (GDSPS). The most recent upgrade, implemented in Version 2, includes substantial improvements resulting from the enhanced tropical cyclone representation in ERA5 using parametric methods. See details in this preprint https://doi.org/10.22541/essoar.15005392/v1 The dataset dynamically accounts for contributions from storm surges, tides, baroclinicity, and their nonlinear interactions. Special efforts have been made to include or improve these components through nudging of deep water tidal transports, nudging of 3D temperature and salinity, and by calibrating the wind drag coefficient. The dataset includes the following files: gesla4_5km.tar.gz: hourly total sea level hindcast at 3003 GESLA tide-gauge locations (minimum spacing of 5 km) gesla4_5km_metadata.csv: metadata for tide-gauge locations, including coordinates, model depth (in m), and distance to gauge locations (in km) YYYY_shoreline.nc.gz: houly total sea level hindcast on shoreline grid (20 km spacing, about 35,000 nodes), with timestamps ranging from YYYY-01-01 01:00:00 to (YYYY+1)-01-01 00:00:00 (inclusive). shoreline_lonlat_20km.nc: coordinates of shoreline grid
