Open-sourced large-scale renewable energy capacity potential analysis for Japan

Abstract

This repository stores code, land-use datasets, and reverse-viewshed maps to calculate capacity potential for Offshore Wind, Onshore Wind, and Openfield PV in Japan under the base scenario and under visibility consideration from various important landscapes and populated areas. The code use ETHOS.GLAES (https://github.com/FZJ-IEK3-VSA/glaes) for land eligibility analysis and capacity potential calculation under the open-source potential analysis workflow ETHOS.REFLOW (https://github.com/FZJ-IEK3-VSA/ethos.REFLOW). Please read the README for instructions to run the code and installations of the required software. Make sure to unzip all the folders before running any script. As it includes several high-resolution datasets, sufficient storage (around 10 GB) is required upon downloading the code and datasets.
