Pediatric triage is an essential component of emergency services, as it allows for the rapid identification of children who require immediate attention and helps prioritize healthcare resources efficiently. In Spain, various systems coexist in clinical practice, such as SET-MAT, the Manchester Triage System, and ESI, although all share the need for a fast, safe, and standardized initial assessment. The Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT) has become a key tool in this first impression, providing a swift evaluation of the patient’s cardiopulmonary and neurological status without the need for physical contact. To further explore this topic, a literature search was conducted to analyze recent scientific publications regarding the use of the PAT in pediatric emergencies in Spain, describing its theoretical basis, integration into triage systems, clinical utility, and validity. Recommendations from professional organizations, strengths and limitations of the method, and areas for improvement in both clinical practice and training are also examined. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of the PAT as a standardized tool that contributes to enhancing patient safety and the quality of the triage process in Spanish pediatric emergency services. The primary search engine used was Google Scholar. Among the articles found, the most relevant to the topic were selected.
