Abstract

Overview This dataset contains vertical wind profiles derived from Velocity-Azimuth Display (VAD) scans, measured using a Leosphere Windcube 200S-86 scanning Doppler wind lidar. The data was collected and processed by DLR e.V. as part of the TEAMx Operational Campaign 2025. The dataset covers the period from April 11, 2025, to August 3, 2025. The wind profiles are calculated using a filtered sine-wave fitting algorithm based on conical scans performed at an elevation angle of 75°. The averaging period is 10-minute. Within this 10-minute period, the lidar performed alternate 35.5° and 75°-elevation scans of which only the five 75°-elevation scans are used. Measurement Location Latitude: 47.30523° N Longitude: 11.62226° E Altitude: 553 m above sea level Instrument Configuration Parameter Value Wavelength 1.54 µm Pulse length 200 ns Elevation angle 75° Angular resolution 2° Single scan time 72 s CNR filter -26.0 dB Data Format & Compliance The data is provided in NetCDF4/HDF5 format. The dataset has been rigorously formatted to comply with the CF-1.6 (Climate and Forecast) metadata conventions, ensuring high interoperability with standard atmospheric science tools (e.g., Python xarray, Panoply). It also complies with the SAMD product standard (The SAMD Product Standard (Standardized Atmospheric Measurement Data)) Dataset Variables Variable Name Long Name CF Standard Name Units Dimensions Z Measurement height above ground level height m (height) WSPD Horizontal wind speed wind_speed m/s (time, height) WDIR Horizontal wind direction wind_from_direction degree (time, height) UZ Vertical wind speed upward_air_velocity m/s (time, height) CNR Carrier to noise ratio N/A dB (time, height) time Midpoint of the averaging period (UTC) time seconds since 1970-01-01 (time)
