THE ROLE OF THE GREAT SILK ROAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE AND INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Abstract

This article examines the historical significance of the Great Silk Road as one of the most influential transcontinental trade and communication networks in human civilization. The study analyzes the origins, development stages, and geopolitical importance of the Silk Road in connecting the East and the West. Special attention is given to the role of Central Asia in the formation of ancient caravan routes and the expansion of economic, diplomatic, and cultural relations among different civilizations. The article highlights the importance of trade routes such as the Lapis Lazuli Road and the Jade Road, as well as the contribution of Sogdian merchants to the establishment of commercial and cultural exchanges between China, Central Asia, and Europe. The diplomatic missions of Zhang Qian and the significance of the famous Fergana horses in the military and political development of the Han Empire are also analyzed. Furthermore, the research explores the Silk Road’s role in the dissemination of religions, scientific achievements, technologies, and cultural values across Eurasia. The article also discusses modern international initiatives aimed at reviving the historical legacy of the Silk Road, including UNESCO cultural programs and regional cooperation projects. Based on historical sources and scholarly literature, the study concludes that the Great Silk Road played a decisive role in shaping intercultural dialogue, global trade relations, and the development of world civilizations.
