Abstract

Introducción: El tumor maligno de hígado, clasificado como un carcinoma hepatocelular, constituye una de las principales causas de muerte por cáncer a nivel mundial. Objetivo: Calcular la tasa de mortalidad por tumor maligno de hígado durante el periodo 2016 a 2024 en Chile. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio de tipo observacional, descriptivo y cuantitativo con datos estadísticos del Departamento de Estadística e Información de Salud (DEIS) relativos a defunciones bajo el código CIE-10 “CC22.0” (carcinoma hepatocelular) ocurridas en Chile e información demográfica del Censo de Población y Vivienda 2024. Resultados: La mayor tasa de mortalidad (TM) ocurrió en 2024 con 9,13 defunciones por cada 100.000 habitantes. El sexo masculino presentó la mayor TM del periodo con 8,45 muertes por cada 100.000 habitantes. El grupo etario de +80 años presentó la mayor mortalidad, con 62,06 fallecimientos por cada 100.000 habitantes. Discusión: El aumento de la TM durante 2024 podría asociarse a un envejecimiento poblacional y aumento de los factores de riesgo metabólicos. El sexo masculino presento mayor mortalidad, probablemente atribuido a un mayor número de factores de riesgo, como alcoholismo y cirrosis. El grupo de +80 años presentó la mayor TM del periodo, esto podría deberse a la acumulación de daño hepático crónico debido a factores epidemiológicos, como la cirrosis, enfermedad hepática no alcohólica. Conclusión: Se evidencia un grupo de riesgo demostrando la necesidad mejorar las políticas públicas que permitan el control de los factores de riesgo y un diagnóstico precoz.
