Abstract

Andrea Costa (1851-1910) was an italian Master Mason and socialist activist. He co-founded the Partito dei Lavoratori Italiani in 1892 after renouncing his anarchist principles in 1879. It is probable that this happened due to his marriage to Russian Socialist and Feminist Anna Kulischov. The Italian commune of Dozza immortalised Costa by naming a square after him and creating this bronze relief of his profile. The commune is known for its festival of the painted wall, which takes place every two years in September. During this festival, famous national and international artists paint permanent works on the walls of the houses.
