A global earthquake-triggered landslide database with newly mapped inventories and no-mapped-landslide events from 2016–2025

Abstract

The dataset is archived in Zenodo as a compressed package named “earthquake triggered landslides 2016_to_2025_new_database”. The archive contains two top-level folders, “earthquake triggered landslides events” and “earthquake triggered no landslide events”, together with two Excel spreadsheets, “earthquake triggered landslides events.xlsx” and “earthquake triggered no landslides events.xlsx”. The folder “earthquake triggered landslides events” contains 24 event-specific subfolders, each corresponding to one newly compiled earthquake-triggered landslide inventory. These folders are named consistently using the earthquake date, moment magnitude, focal depth, and event location. Within each event folder, two subfolders are provided. The first, named “landslides”, contains the landslide inventory as an ESRI shapefile dataset. The shapefile uses the same event-based naming convention as the parent folder and stores the manually delineated coseismic landslide polygons. All landslide inventory files are provided in the WGS 1984 geographic coordinate system and can be opened directly in standard GIS software. The second subfolder, named “shakemap”, contains the corresponding event-level ground-motion products, including PGA, PGV, and MI layers downloaded from the USGS ShakeMap products. The folder “earthquake triggered no landslide events” contains 42 event-specific subfolders, also named using the earthquake date, moment magnitude, focal depth, and event location. Each of these folders includes one subfolder named “shakemap”, which contains the corresponding PGA, PGV, and MI datasets downloaded from USGS for the earthquake event. These folders represent the screened earthquakes for which no landslides were identified at the spatial resolution adopted in this study. The two Excel spreadsheets provide event-level summary information for the database. The file “earthquake triggered landslides events.xlsx” corresponds to the 24 newly compiled EQIL inventory cases reported in Table 1, whereas “earthquake triggered no landslides events.xlsx” corresponds to the 42 no-landslide cases reported in Table 2. Together, these files provide a structured overview of the complete 66-earthquake database and facilitate direct data browsing, filtering, and reuse.
