Apixaban Neuroprotection for Vascular Dementia Prevention

Abstract

FAERS data shows 1133 dementia reports with apixaban, but this may indicate use in stroke prevention rather than causation. Apixaban's anticoagulant effects could prevent microemboli and preserve cerebral perfusion. The high co-reporting with dementia suggests either protective use or need for better understanding of bleeding vs thrombotic balance in cerebrovascular dementia.
