Tamarindus indica Polyphenols for Oxidative Stress Reduction

Abstract

Proanthocyanidins and epicatechin from African tamarind fruit pulp scavenge reactive oxygen species generated by accumulated argininosuccinic acid metabolites while activating endogenous antioxidant systems through Keap1-Nrf2 pathway modulation. These compounds also stabilize mitochondrial membrane potential in hepatocytes, preserving cellular ATP production needed for residual ASL function.
