Quinazoline Alkaloids from Brazilian Zanthoxylum for Novel Pteridine Transporter Modulation

Abstract

Alkaloids from Amazonian Zanthoxylum species upregulate SLC22A8 (OAT3) and SLC46A1 transporters, enhancing cellular uptake of pteridine precursors and folate derivatives. These compounds also inhibit pteridine oxidation by modulating xanthine oxidase activity, preserving BH4 stability and extending its biological half-life.
