Acyclovir Optimization for Neonatal Herpes Simplex Based on Valacyclovir Pharmacokinetics

Abstract

Clinical trials data (NCT05468619) shows completed Phase 1 neonatal valacyclovir study, providing pharmacokinetic data for optimized dosing. FDA drug approvals list multiple acyclovir formulations from various manufacturers, indicating established safety profile. Neonatal-specific dosing based on valacyclovir prodrug conversion could improve outcomes in congenital herpes simplex infection while minimizing toxicity.
