The Extent of Disclosure of Corporate Social Responsibility Activities and Their Impact on the Value of Companies Listed on the Damascus Securities Exchange An Applied Study

Abstract

This research aimed to measure the disclosure of social responsibility by companies listed on the Damascus Securities Exchange regarding activities related to employees (22 items), products (11 items), and community (14 items), and to test the impact of this disclosure on firm value measured by Tobin's q, using the companies' annual reports and financial statements for the year 2016, along with descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, and simple regression analysis. The results showed that the banking sector had the highest proportion of total social responsibility disclosures, followed by insurance, then services, industrial, and agricultural sectors, while disclosure related to employee activities was the highest, followed by community, and finally product-related disclosures. The research concluded that there is a negative impact of disclosure on employee-related social responsibility activities on firm value, whereas no statistically significant impact was found for disclosure on product-related or community-related activities.
