Techno-Optimism Archive Dataset

Abstract

The Techno-Optimism Archive Dataset is a curated dataset of historical press excerpts that capture techno-optimistic, solutionist, and often utopian ways of imagining then-new technologies. It is part of the broader Techno-Optimism Archive project (technooptimism.org), which brings together examples from digitized newspapers, magazines, and related printed sources. The dataset contains project-authored metadata and summaries describing individual records across multiple technologies. Each record represents one discrete statement, claim, or attributed promise drawn from a source item. The dataset is intended as a reusable resource for research in the history of technology, media history, digital humanities, and science and technology studies.
