High-Resolution Multispectral Individual Tree Crown Annotations from Digital Orthophotos in Halle (Saale), Germany

Abstract

Dataset description This dataset contains geospatial RGBI image tiles and per-tile polygon annotations for tree crown delineation in Halle, Germany. Raster tiles are provided as GeoTIFF files and annotations are provided as ESRI Shapefiles. Each raster tile has a ground sampling distance of 20 cm. With a tile size of 500 x 500 pixels, each tile covers 100 m x 100 m on the ground. Raster tiles are named tile__.tif, and their corresponding label shapefiles use the same tile indices with a label_ prefix, i.e. label_tile__.shp; for example, tile_8_18.tif maps to label_tile_8_18.shp. This convention is used in the DeepTrees tree segmentation software (https://deeptrees.de). Raster tiles Property Value Tile directory tiles/ Number of GeoTIFF tiles 241 Tile pixel size 500 x 500 px Ground sampling distance (GSD) 0.20 m Geospatial tile size 100 m x 100 m Raster bands 4 (RGBNIR) Raster data type uint8 Coordinate reference system EPSG:25832 Dataset bounding extent 704000, 5708000, 706000, 5710000 Bounding extent size 2000 m x 2000 m Time period 05-2022 Source: © GeoBasis-DE/LVermGeo ST 2022. Labels The label count is the sum of features across the per-tile label_tile_*.shp files. The three raster tiles without corresponding label shapefiles are tile_0_10.tif, tile_0_11.tif, and tile_1_19.tif, which can be used as background tiles or removed altogether. Property Value Label directory labels/ Per-tile label shapefiles 238 Raster tiles with corresponding label shapefiles 238 Raster tiles without corresponding label shapefiles 3 Total label polygons 10,464 Label geometry type Polygon Label attribute field class* Coordinate reference system EPSG:25832 *Class descriptions: 0: Tree 1: Cluster of trees 2: Unsure Consistency notes All raster tiles and per-tile label shapefiles use EPSG:25832. One label file, label_tile_8_4.shp, contains no polygon features. Some label polygons extend slightly beyond their corresponding 100 m x 100 m raster tile footprint. These cases still spatially intersect their matching raster tile and are consistent with tree crown polygons crossing tile boundaries.
