Subaru/IRCS View of Dracula's Chivito: Infrared Imaging and Modelling of the IRAS 23077+670 Disk

Abstract

We present new infrared observations of the protoplanetary disk surrounding IRAS 23077+670, colloquially known as Dracula's Chavito, obtained with the Infrared Camera and Spectrograph (IRCS) on the Subaru Telescope. Serendipitously found in the Pan-STARRS all sky survey, this is one of the largest known circumstellar disks and is located in the Cepheus star-forming region. The disk is observed at a nearly edge-on inclination, revealing prominent morphological features. Multi-band imaging, including both broadband and narrowband filters, reveals a central asymmetry which points to some interesting dynamic processes. We carry-out a comprehensive grid-search of radiative transfer models to constrain the disk geometry. Additionally, the multi-wavelength dataset enables us to probe the scattering properties of the dust and place constraints on the characteristic grain size distribution. These results offer insight into the physical conditions and evolutionary state of a massive, young disk system.
