HeadTracking_Demo — REAPER session for "The B-Format as Score"

HeadTracking_Demo — REAPER session for "The B-Format as Score"

Abstract

This REAPER session is a companion artefact for *The B-Format as Score:Composition, Interpretation, and Spatial Form in Ambisonics* (JohannesSchütt, 2026), submitted to the Journal of Artistic Research (JAR) viathe Research Catalogue platform. **What this session demonstrates:** The session illustrates the second thesis of the paper (§4.2): decodingis not a neutral technical transfer but an aesthetic interpretation. The same 7th-order HOA source — `A00 Rethinking Thought` (B-format, 64channels) — is decoded through two parallel binaural paths: one static(no rotation compensation) and one head-tracked (IEM SceneRotatorcounter-rotates the scene in real time via OSC, before the binauraldecoder renders). A JS `AB Monitor Switch` enables immediate A/Bcomparison on the master bus. The externalization difference is theexperiment's aesthetic payload. **Contents:** - `HeadTracking_Demo.rpp` — REAPER project- `Media/` — source audio (A00 7th-order ambiX / SN3D, 64-ch PCM WAV, 48 kHz / 24-bit, ~52 s)- `docs/headtracking_workflow.png` — session screenshot (Figure 1)- `docs/A00_FOA_Analysis.html` — static FOA spectral/energy analysis of the source- `README.md` — detailed reproduction instructions, test protocol, integrity verification **Requires:** The JAR Reaper Ambisonics Bundle([doi:10.5281/zenodo.19633159](https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19633159))for the REAPER environment, IEM SceneRotator, a binaural decoder(dearVR AMBI MICRO or IEM BinauralDecoder), and the `AB Monitor Switch`JSFX. Install the bundle first, then open this session's RPP inside it. For the head-tracked path, an OSC head tracker on UDP port 7000 isrequired (e.g. SceneRotator HeadTracker,github.com/joambi/SceneRotatorHeadTracker). **Target platform:** Apple Silicon macOS 13+ (Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia).Tested on REAPER v7.69 / IEM v1.15.0 / dearVR AMBI MICRO under the v1.0.0 Bundle. **License:** CC BY 4.0 for session RPP, documentation, the AB MonitorSwitch JSFX, and the A00 source audio (excerpt from *Rethinking Thought*© Johannes Schütt, released under CC BY 4.0). **Integrity:** SHA-256: e6dff0208ad04eb7a3c2326e78b7ba7e4abc7796aa7add549f87228c40e5954eMD5: 69003d461bfa60172ebbc7a60b4b532dBytes: 336,751,396
