A renaissance of 3D for Cultural Heritage: scrolly-telling websites with our 3DStories Framework

Abstract

A shift is occurring in digital cultural heritage: moving from static 3D archiving toward immersive, curated narratives. Our 3DStories framework equips researchers to write and publish narrative-driven exhibitions of 3D models, using the proven experience of scrolly-telling. 3DStories features a rigorous technical pipeline for model preparation, emphasizing optimization for browsers and advanced shader techniques for visual and interpretive effects. Utilizing AstroJS, React, and Theatre.js, 3DStories provides a seamless development environment to stage models in custom scenes, ensuring 3D assets become foundational elements for rich storytelling and curated publication on the web.
