Abstract

Mediaorganisaties staan voor nieuwe keuzes nu zij hun journalistieke missie willen verenigen met de snelle opkomst van AI en data-gedreven technologie. Innovatie biedt kansen, maar roept ook fundamentele vragen op: hoe blijven redactionele onafhankelijkheid, publieke verantwoordelijkheid en vertrouwen van het publiek gewaarborgd? DEDA voor Media (D4M) is ontwikkeld om organisaties bij deze afwegingen te ondersteunen. Het is een dialogisch instrument dat teams helpt om ethische en maatschappelijke frictiepunten in data- en AI-projecten systematisch te bespreken voordat systemen worden geïmplementeerd. De materialen zijn vrij beschikbaar. D4M is vormgegeven als een A0-poster die teams gezamenlijk doorlopen. De methode helpt om spanningen tussen ontwerpkeuzes, projectdoelen en journalistieke waarden zichtbaar te maken en te documenteren. Door gestructureerde reflectie op het doel van een project, de gebruikte data en technologie, en de mogelijke gevolgen voor publiek, redactie en organisatie, kunnen risico’s vroegtijdig worden herkend en beter worden gemitigeerd. Het proces ondersteunt organisaties niet alleen bij het nemen van beter onderbouwde beslissingen, maar draagt ook bij aan de ontwikkeling van zorgvuldiger ontworpen AI-toepassingen. Tegelijkertijd biedt het een vorm van interne en externe verantwoording: het maakt inzichtelijk hoe keuzes tot stand komen en versterkt daarmee het vertrouwen van collega’s, partners en het publiek. Het gezamenlijk doorlopen van de poster leidt bovendien tot concrete actiepunten om projecten beter af te stemmen op de waarden en verantwoordelijkheden van de organisatie. In de praktijk versterkt D4M daarmee ook de digitale en ethische competenties binnen teams.
