Land-use and land-cover dynamics within AOO and EOO for 1,036 Brazilian Leguminosae species (MapBiomas 1985–2022): dataset supporting extinction risk assessment analyses

Abstract

This dataset supports the study "Land-use dynamics reveal differential extinction risk signals in extent of occurrence and area of occupancy for Brazilian legumes", and provides species-level inputs and derived metrics used to quantify land-use and land-cover (LULC) dynamics within Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) for native Brazilian Leguminosae. The file Appendix-S1.ods provides a species-level summary for all assessed legumes native to Brazil, including IUCN Red List category and criteria, number of locations from expert assessments, and year of the latest assessment based on official CNCFlora records. The dataset also includes calculated values for Area of Occupancy (AOO) and Extent of Occurrence (EOO), together with annual rates of change in natural area within AOO and EOO derived from LULC time series. Location estimates derived from automated buffer-based methods (1–5 km radii) are also provided to support comparison between expert-curated and spatially derived location counts. The file Appendix-S2.ods contains overlay analysis results for AOO and EOO of each species using MapBiomas Brazil LULC data (Collection 8.0) for the period 1985–2022. Results are provided both as absolute area (km²) and proportional coverage (%) for each LULC class intersecting species distributions. These overlays support estimates of habitat change trajectories across time. The file Appendix-S3.ods presents annual trend-rate estimates derived from temporal analyses of LULC classes within species-level AOO and EOO, including both natural and anthropogenic groupings used to evaluate continuing decline signals under IUCN Criterion B. Together, these files provide a harmonised species-level dataset linking Red List assessment attributes, distributional metrics (AOO and EOO), automated location estimates, and long-term LULC dynamics derived from MapBiomas time series. The dataset enables reproducible screening and comparative analyses of habitat change signals across assessed Brazilian Leguminosae. Numeric values are stored as numeric fields and may appear with decimal separators according to the user's locale settings. ODS files are provided in OpenDocument format; we recommend opening them using LibreOffice to ensure correct interpretation of decimal formats. Interactive maps and species-level visualisations are available through the project repository:https://lsbjordao.github.io/LULC-MapBiomas-Leguminosae/
