Abstract

The Kathreiner Haus demonstration, part of the EU Reincarnate project, shows how digital innovation can drive the transition to a circular economy in construction. In essence, the project introduces a parametric automation tool designed to seamlessly integrate reclaimed building components into Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflows. By leveraging Dynamo and Revit, the tool bridges the gap between digital marketplaces for second-hand materials and BIM models, enabling architects and engineers to efficiently match and reuse components while maintaining design flexibility. The primary objective is to transform construction practices by reducing waste and carbon emissions through the systematic reuse of materials. The Kathreiner Haus Demonstration in Berlin serves as a proof of concept, demonstrating how automation can simplify the identification, selection, and integration of reclaimed windows into new or retrofitted buildings. Key outcomes include a functional tool that streamlines the reuse process for integrating circular principles into BIM, and a framework that could be adaptable to other building components. By proving the viability of digital tools in circular construction, Kathreiner Haus demonstration could enable future innovations, encouraging the industry to adopt more circular and efficient building and design practices
