High-frequency sea level parameters dataset The Sea Level parameters product provides high-frequency sea level measurements collected by in-situ instrumentation. The time series is provided as continuous 10-minute measurements. The output files are provided as point measurements at fixed coastal locations, characterizing local sea level conditions. The data product also delivers comprehensive quality control flags following Copernicus Marine In Situ TAC standards.Detailed information on the included datasets and vocabularies can be found in the Product User Manual. Technical details The datasets are provided separately for each location in NetCDF format. Each file contains a time series of sea level parameters, their corresponding quality control flags and additional metadata. Parameters This product includes time series of sea level height and atmospheric pressure derived from direct measurements. The parameters included in the dataset are listed below. Variable Long Name Units SLEV Water surface height above a specific datum m SLEV_QC Water surface height above a specific datum quality flag dimensionless ATMS Atmospheric pressure at sea level hPa ATMS_QC Atmospheric pressure at sea level quality flag dimensionless Data sources Platforms: Coastal structure Instruments: Radar TideStation SeaLevel H500XL, water pressure gauge SBE26+ and an atmospheric pressure sensor PTB330 Data quality The accuracy of sea level measurements depends on the sensor type and environmental conditions. For radar-based system, the nominal accuracy is ±10 mm with a resolution of 1 mm, although performance can be influenced by atmospheric humidity, temperature gradients, and surface turbulence. For pressure-based tide gauges, precision is defined by the manufacturer’s specifications (typically within ±1 mm to ±5 mm) and may be affected by long-term sensor drift, temperature compensation, or biofouling. In all cases, the effective accuracy in operational conditions reflects both the intrinsic technical specifications of the instrument and the local environmental factors A comprehensive quality control (QC) procedure has been applied to the data, following Copernicus Marine In Situ TAC standards. Flags are assigned based on automated QC tests, including global range, regional range, spike detection, gradient analysis, and stationarity tests.
