KARAYCANIN KIRIM DİYALEKTİNDE CÜMLENİN YAPISAL-İŞLEVSEL ÖZELLİKLERİ: İBRANİ HARFLİ METİNLER ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Abstract

Anahtar kelimeler: Karayca, cümle, özne, yüklem, sözdizimsel yapı, sade cümle, birleşik cümle Abstract This study examines the structural, functional, and syntactic properties of sentence types in the Crimean Karaim dialect based on Hebrew-script texts. The data set consists of 400 sentences selected from published Karaim texts, and the analysis adopts a mixed-method approach combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Sentences are classified according to structural type (simple and complex), functional type (declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory), and syntactic features (SOV, SVO, and inverted structures). The findings reveal that simple sentences are more frequent than complex ones and that declarative sentences constitute the dominant functional type. In terms of syntax, SVO structures are used alongside the typical Turkic SOV order, which is interpreted as a result of language contact and translation practices. This study provides a systematic and data-driven analysis of Crimean Karaim syntax, highlighting the interaction between internal linguistic structures and external factors such as text type and language contact, and contributes to the existing literature. Keywords: Karaim, sentence, subject, predicate, syntactic structure, simple sentence, compound sentence
