SOAR: Semi-Automated Output Assessment and Review - Final Report

SOAR: Semi-Automated Output Assessment and Review - Final Report

Abstract

The SOAR project assessed the feasibility of using the TREvolution SACRO tools within the ONS Secure Research Service, exploring how semi‑automated checks could support existing Statistical Disclosure Control processes. Testing across multiple researcher groups showed that SACRO offers promising advantages, including earlier visibility of potential disclosure issues, clearer access to supporting statistical information, and a more structured format for reviewing outputs. While further development is still needed, particularly around statistical functionality, workflow compatibility, and TRE‑specific guidance, the project indicates that SACRO has strong long‑term potential, with smaller TREs likely to benefit first from its emerging capabilities.
