This showcase tutorial demonstrates how to create vowel charts in R from acoustic phonetics data, covering the extraction of formant data from Praat, the processing and normalisation of F1/F2 values, and the creation of publication-quality vowel space visualisations for comparing speakers or language varieties. It is aimed at researchers in phonetics and sociolinguistics who work with acoustic data. This tutorial is part of the Language Technology and Data Analysis Laboratory (LADAL), a free, open-access research infrastructure at the University of Queensland. LADAL provides tutorials, tools, and courses for researchers working with language data. All materials are freely available at https://ladal.edu.au and are part of the Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA), funded by ARDC and NCRIS.
