This tutorial provides a hands-on introduction to R and RStudio for complete beginners, covering installation, the RStudio interface, basic R syntax, variables, functions, and writing a first R script. It is the recommended starting point for all LADAL users and serves as the prerequisite for all other practical tutorials in the collection. This tutorial is part of the Language Technology and Data Analysis Laboratory (LADAL), a free, open-access research infrastructure at the University of Queensland. LADAL provides tutorials, tools, and courses for researchers working with language data.
