Abstract

The temporal distribution of publications shows a trajectory of rapid growth following the launch of ChatGPT at the end of 2022. The number of publications increased substantially from 1,452 in 2023 to 5,813 in 2024, then rose further to 12,596 in 2025.Moreover, in the period 1 January – 1 February 2026, 794 publications had already been indexed, indicating sustained momentum in research on generative artificial intelligence in higher education (see Figure 2).
