Pereioplatypus Beaver 2007

Abstract

Pereioplatypus Beaver, 2007Type species: Platypus octospinosus Browne, 1985.Figs 22–23This small genus with four species was erected by Beaver (2007). The species show resemblances to species in the Neotropical genus Costaroplatus Nunberg, but the two genera are probably not very closely related (Beaver 2007).Pereioplatypus is known only from Brunei Darussalam, East and West Malaysia. The species appear to be associated with host trees in the family Dipterocarpaceae, but the biology of the species has not been studied. The gallery system is likely to resemble that of Platypus. One species has been recorded in West Malaysia.
