Abstract

Article type: Original Research Article Introduction: prostate cancer is one of the most prevalent neoplasms causing mortality in Cuba. Objective: to determine the risk factors associated with prostate cancer in patients at the Carlos Juan Finlay Pérez Teaching Polyclinic. The study period was from January 2023 to December 2025. Method: a descriptive, observational, and analytical case-control study was conducted. A total of 34 cases and 68 controls were included, with a 1:2 ratio. A data collection instrument was used to evaluate sociodemographic, biological, genetic, environmental, and dietary variables, as well as a history of premalignant lesions. Statistical analysis included the calculation of odds ratios, confidence intervals, and attributable risk. Results: Statistically significant associations were found for most factors. Behavioral factors showed the strongest association, followed by a history of premalignant lesions and biological factors (age ≥65 years and Black race). Genetic and dietary factors also showed a significant association, while environmental factors did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: a clear predominance of modifiable factors was identified, with unhealthy lifestyles and a history of premalignant prostate lesions showing the strongest and most significant associations. Biological, genetic, and dietary factors were also confirmed as important risk elements in this context. Public health actions against prostate cancer must be focused on primary health prevention and health promotion.
