Herausforderungen durch KI für Bibliotheken hinsichtlich Predatory Practices und Paper Mills

Abstract

Predatory Practices im wissenschaftlichen Publikationswesen, wie die Einnahme von Publikationsgebühren ohne verlegerische Leistung und insbesondere Verzicht auf die Qualitätssicherung wissenschaftlicher Inhalte mittels Peer Review, sind schon länger bekannt, erfahren aber eine ständige Anpassung und Ausweitung. Mit generativer KI eröffnen sich nun neue Möglichkeiten für Akteure mit betrügerischen Absichten. Ähnliches gilt für Paper Mills, die Inhalte ohne wissenschaftlichen Wert bei Zeitschriften einreichen und Forschenden zum Kauf anbieten. Hierbei wird nicht nur der Publikationsprozess manipuliert, sondern mittels generativer KI werden nun auch Manuskripte in „Massenproduktion" hergestellt, die den State-of-the-Art „vermüllen". Der Vortrag gibt einen Überblick über die aktuellen Entwicklungen. Diese Praktiken stellen sowohl Forschende als auch Bibliotheken, die forschungsunterstützende Services anbieten, vor besondere Herausforderungen, die ebenfalls diskutiert werden sollen.
