Abstract

This article examines a poorly researched aspect of the Kuban region's history during the Russian Civil War – the charitable initiatives in support of the Volunteer Army. The primary focus is on analyzing the role of the Kuban periodical press as a key institution that organized and coordinated philanthropic activities amidst the military and political crisis. The study draws upon a wide range of sources, primarily materials from the newspapers Volnaya Kuban, Kubanskoye Slovo, Kubansky Krai, and Velikaya Rossiya. This source base allows for the reconstruction of not only the forms and content of the charitable campaigns but also their implementation mechanisms and the public reaction to them. The research reveals that charity in the Kuban was not merely an expression of compassion but a complex socio-political phenomenon that fostered the formation of a patriotic consciousness and the consolidation of civil society. This study fills a gap in the scholarship on regional history and underscores the significance of the Kuban press as a source for understanding social processes during the Civil War.
